Hi friends! Hope everyone is enjoying their President's Day. As I write this I am looking out our window onto a playground full of little girls...it's pretty sweet.
How far along: 14 weeks (and 2 days), size of a lemon! Makes me think of the Peter Paul and Mary song
Total weight gain: 2-3 lbs
Maternity clothes: jeans for sure (just sick of the rubberband/bella band for the moment), but I still have other regular things I wear
Stretch marks: nope
Sleep: ok, minus crazy dreams. I'm thinking it's less hormones and more demons.
Best moment of this week: Announcing the news to my far away friends with a funny email. Went whale watching with the hubby, that was pretty cool. Also, NO MORE FIRST TRI!
Miss anything: running, having energy
Movement: all the books and people say you can't feel anything at this point but I wonder sometimes...
Food cravings: oranges every day
Anything making you queasy or sick: sometimes the smell of meat, or being tired
Have you started to show yet: I have a little bump, but it's not obvious unless I wear a tight shirt and even then not really
Gender: I was feeling boy but now I don't know anymore....?
Belly button in or out: In, but it is sticking out more and was kinda uncomfortable the other day, a bizarre feeling!
Wedding rings on or off: on
Happy or moody most of the time: definitely had some moody days, especially if I don't sleep well
Looking forward to: getting back even more energy and figuring out a workout routine.
Time to go finish making dinner...making pizza tonight! :)

There's our little bebe!
Sorry to take so long for a recap of Tuesday's appointment. I guess it's a good thing I woke up so early this morning, now I have time to write! Thank you so much for all your good wishes for this appointment. I was super nervous, but everything went well!
Our little one was being stubborn and it took about an hour to get the NT measurements. The tech tried 3 times, had me lay on my side, drink more water, rock my hips, and punctuated all of this by thumping on my stomach a lot. But in the end she got the measurements and they were within normal range. It was kinda nice that it took a while, because we got to have more "screen time" with our baby. :) The little hands and legs were waving around, and it was overall pretty amazing. We listened to the HB for a little bit too.
Then I had blood drawn (only one tube of blood, yay!) and then the doctor's appointment. She answered my 87 questions and then we heard the baby's heartbeat again. After listening to the HB of 160, as a joke she said "My guess is girl! I have a 50/50 chance of being right." We thought that was really funny, I guess that's a good line. I don't have to take progesterone anymore, I'm allowed to exercise and am off pelvic rest. She still doesn't recommend running. Although I guess I shouldn't be too disappointed because I'm tortoise speed right now anyways. I was glad the hubby could come and see the u/s and meet the doctor. Plus I was glad he could be there because I was nervous as all get out. They said it would be a while with my b/w, but since the u/s went well, I was really reassured and relieved by this appointment. I feel like this is a huge milestone we have passed!
When I got home my Gap maternity order was waiting for me on the doorstep. Sweet. Maternity jeans are pretty amazeballs, and I don't think I'll be going back much if at all.
Thinking of all of you and sending good vibes.

And here is a baby foot. :)

ahh
I got some drugs Wednesday and am finally on the mend! Thank you for the feel better vibes. I was really at my wits end. Now I just need to catch up around here... and am counting down the days until our N/T scan on Tuesday.
In the meantime I've made some connections and am finally going to play some chamber music! An old acquaintance from conservatory hooked me up with some good players who I will meet next week. We'll be working on the Brahms piano quintet, a dream piece for me. A couple years ago I played a two-piano version of it, this will be even better. I am very rusty and nervous and excited, wish me luck!
Here is an excellent recording of the piece (1st mvt, there are 4) from the Takács quartet. I had coachings with them in my undergrad. They are such intense individuals and incredibly talented, but remained approachable and never took themselves too seriously. Love people like that. I normally like videos where you can watch the players, but this is pretty cool.

Face OFF
Maybe if I had used the thing earlier I could have prevented this. But once again, I think the neti pot has let me down with its false promises. I have been writing little poems in my head about how much I hate the neti pot.
I have been sick since last Monday. At this point, my chest congestion is better and even my sinuses seem more clear (ah, the irony). Physically I feel like the cold is on its way out.
But starting last Saturday I started having bad sinus pain, especially around my upper jaw. I don't think the neti pot reaches that far.
Since Saturday, I have tried every home remedy for sinus infections, and I think discovered a new one (clarisonic). This is the 4th morning I have been awakened around 3 am by the sinus pain. It is the weirdest thing, it is not getting better. Extra strength Tylenol helps very very little.
My OB was going to give me a scrip for a Z-pak, but due to my drug allergies we weren't positive if that was safe. I can't remember for sure if I've taken a Z-pak before. She said to see my PCM.
I thought I would wait another day or two and see if it got better. I thought it was improving, but this morning is making me believe It is not getting better. After another 3 am hot tea and neti fest, I can't go back to sleep. I am laying here in the guest room, waiting for the hour to be decent enough/hubby to wake so I can take a hot shower in the master bathroom.
I am pretty afraid to take an antibiotic right now. The OB said I could take sudafed, but I don't want to take that either, it won't help if this is bacterial.
Every time I've had a sinus infection in the past, I've had to get antibiotics. They would not go away otherwise. I thought this time I could make it heal itself, but that is looking unlikely. Even the Mayo Clinic book says most antibiotics are safe to take, I just wish I was further along.
The thing is, it sounds so minor and whiney to say your face hurts. Even maxo-facial pain or whatever the term is, or a tooth ache? NBD right? Evidently not for me. This is making me question how I'll hold up to labor pain. Maybe my pain tolerance is whimpy.
All that aside, hopefully I can get in to see the doc today and she can write me a scrip for something safe. My doc is pregnant, I hope she is still there, her due date is soon. There's something reassuring about a pregnant doctor Rxing you something, since she has the same concerns. Until then, this guy about sums it up. ;)

Movie Marathon
Eleven weeks today! We have a fig now! Presently I have DH's cold, but am still doing well(ish). But that means this is not going to be the best post, because my brain is mush. I've been in zombie/minimalist mode since Monday.
We had a great time at the wedding last weekend, and the LBD worked out great. It was special to support and celebrate such a truly lovely couple, in a beautiful locale too.

Just a week and change until our NT scan and we're out of First Tri. Come on Second Tri! I still think we're having a boy but we haven't decided if we'll find out. We probably will...? I am also worried something will go wrong before then and I won't know, but I have no logical reason to worry that.
DH has been so helpful and supportive, it calms my mind to see these little ways that show he'll be a great Daddy. He made us the best pancakes this morning. Mmmm. Then he actually *suggested* watching The Last Unicorn last night, because he wanted insight into my childhood. Haha. Love that movie. I have it all memorized I think.
Today we saw Frankenweenie. It is incredibly entertaining. And impressive! Highly recommend, if you like Tim Burton.
Thank you for all the kind thoughts. Please know I am sending good vibes to you all. And remember, be wary of rousing a wizard's wrath. Haha. Or, at least wary of a hubby's cold. Or, most importantly, be wary of my silly 80s movie references that slip out in weak moments. ;)
